Shirdi Airport to Allow Night Landing of Flights by 2019 December-End, Facilities to Cost Rs 4 Crore

By the end of December 2019, fights will be able to land in the night at Shirdi Airport. This decision has been taken keeping in mind, the increase in demand from the operators. The MADC further plans to add 10 more flights to the daily flight roster of 22 flights and a cost of night landing facility will be around Rs 4 crore.

Mumbai, August 12: By the end of December 2019, fights will be able to land in the night at Shirdi Airport. According to a Mumbai Mirror report, the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), which owns the Airport has taken the decision, keeping in mind the demands from several operators. 22 flights arrive in Shirdi in a day from various locations, like Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Bhopal, Jaipur and Bengaluru. The MADC further plans to add 10 more flights to the daily flight roster and a cost of night landing facility will be around Rs 4 crore.

Other facilities that need to be made available at the Shirdi Airport are-Instrument Landing System (ILS), which enables pilots to land in low visibility conditions. Tenders for a bigger terminal will be invited next year. In April this year, passengers onboard a SpiceJet flight had a narrow escape as the aircraft overshot the runway while landing at the Shirdi airport.
