Mumbai, March 8: The defence lawyer of former INX Media chief Indrani Mukerjea on Thursday told a court that former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria had interfered in the investigation in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case. Advocate Sudeep Pasbola also alleged that a conspiracy was hatched against his client Indrani Mukerjea who is facing trial for murder of her daughter Sheena Bora.

During a hearing in the special trial court, Indrani's lawyer requested the special judge JC Jagdale to take a copy of the 2015 proposal to transfer the Sheena Bora murder case from Mumbai police to the CBI on record. The proposal was endorsed then principal secretary (home) Bhushankumar Upadhyay. Deposing as the 37th witness, Upadhyay said he had found the proposal sent by the then DGP to be in the 'interest of justice, TOI reports. Sheena Bora Murder Case: Indrani Mukerjea Says She Is Ready to Face Lie-Detector Test.

Even though the prosecution objected to Pasbola's request, special judge JC Jagdale allowed it, saying: "In my opinion, in the interest of fair trial, the proposal can be produced on record though it was confidential official correspondence." Following the special judge's approval, copies of the proposal were given to the defence. Sheena (24) was killed allegedly by her mother Indrani Mukerjea with the help of others in a car in April 2012. However, the incident came to light in August 2015 after Mukerjea’s driver Shyamvar Rai, who was arrested by the police for possessing firearms, disclosed it. Police had arrested Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and Rai for allegedly killing Sheena.

Later, Indrani’s husband and media baron Peter Mukerjea was also arrested for allegedly being part of the conspiracy. The CBI has claimed that a financial dispute was the reason for the murder.
