Mumbai, September 7: The special CBI court has rejected the bail plea of Indrani Mukerjea.  Earlier in August, Indrani sought bail citing threat to her life besides other reasons. She is currently in jail in connection with the murder of Sheena Bora, her daughter from a previous husband. Indrani filed a bail application before the special CBI court in Mumbai through her advocate Gunjan Mangla.

In her bail application, Indrani had said that there was a threat to her life in the women's jail in Byculla. She had also cited two instances when she was hospitalised following an alleged drug overdose. On April 6 this year, Indrani was rushed to JJ Hospital from Byculla women’s court in a semi-conscious condition. She underwent a series of medical tests including a brain MRI. The hospital authorities had then said she had an overdose of anti-depressants that were not prescribed to her.

Earlier, in 2015, Indrani was rushed to the hospital after she fell unconscious following a suspected drug overdose and remained under treatment for nearly a week. Indrani is facing trial for allegedly killing her daughter Sheena Bora. According to the police, Sheena Bora was murdered, and her body disposed of in a forest area in Raigad district in April 2012.

Indrani's former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai are also named as accused in the crime. Rai later became a witness in the case. The CBI had said Bora was killed over a financial dispute. The agency later arrested Indrani’s husband, Peter Mukerjea for allegedly being part of the murder conspiracy.
