Share Trading Scam: ‘Woman’ on Dating App Dupes Pune Management Consultant of Rs 20 Lakh, Probe Launched

Pune, April 25: A management consultant in his mid-50s from Pune fell victim to an online trading scam, losing a substantial amount of Rs 20 lakh. The man met a “woman” on an online dating app who manipulated him into transferring money over a period of two months.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at Koregaon Park police station, the consultant connected with the woman through a dating app, reported Indian Express. They exchanged phone numbers and decided to take things forward. She sent him a link to create a profile on the platform. The man submitted his personal information and financial details to set up his account. Once the account was set up, the woman persuaded him to make payments to specific banks. Upon making the payment, his account reflected high profits, leading him to believe that the platform was genuine. However, when he attempted to withdraw the money, he was asked to pay a $3,000 fee. It was at this point that he realized he had been scammed. The victim reported the incident to the police and an FIR has been registered. Further investigation into the case is underway.
