Mumbai, September 27: Sharad Pawar, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief said he won't be visiting the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) office on Friday in connection with a money laundering case. According to a tweet by ANI, Pawar said the Mumbai Commissioner of Police and Joint Commissioner of Police (CP) met him today and requested him not to go so that the law and order situation remains under control. In the wake of the visit, the Mumbai Police on Thursday imposed prohibitory orders in Mumbai's Ballard Estate. The Police also issued prohibitory orders under sections 144 CrPC in various places of the metropolitan city on Friday. "We are well equipped to take care of any eventuality. Section 144 is in place in the whole area. We have taken sufficient precautions. If any violation occurs, we are well equipped to handle that," said DCP Sangram Singh Nishandar, DCP Zone 1, Mumbai Police. On Friday morning, Pawar stated that he would 'present' himself at the Enforcement Directorate office on Friday. Ahead of the ED questioning, NCP leader Nawab Malik also reached for meeting Pawar at his residence. Malik said police are detaining NCP workers in Mumbai and in other parts of the state and alleged that the ED was working on directions of the ruling BJP who wants to frame Pawar in false cases ahead of the state elections.
The NCP Chief has been accused of scam for Maharashtra state Cooperative Bank case where loans amounting to Rs 25,000 crore were allegedly given to various people. The ED had alleged the norms were flouted by Pawar while sanctioning the loans.
