New Delhi, January 20: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday visited Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Surjewala father breathed his last at the hospital earlier in the day today following prolonged illness. Shamsher Singh Surjewala, a veteran Congress leader and former Haryana Congress chief, passed away after brief illness. He was 87.

The funeral of the veteran leader will take place on Monday afternoon in Narwana. Shamsher Surjewala remained a five-time MLA and one-time Rajya Sabha MP. He was also the former president of the Haryana Congress and a former minister.

Shamsher Singh had won the from Narwana Assembly constituency of Haryana in 1967, 1977, 1982 and 1991. He was also elected as an MLA from Kaithal assembly constituency in 2001. The 87-year-old leader was a president of the Haryana Krishak Samaj and fought for the rights of farmers. The cremation will take place at Narwana in Haryana in the afternoon.
