An eight-member delegation of Shaheen Bagh protesters met Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Tuesday. During the meeting, Baijal appealed to the protesters to call off their agitation as it has been causing inconvenience to schoolchildren, patients and the general public.
New Delhi, January 21: An eight-member delegation of Shaheen Bagh protesters met Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Tuesday. During the meeting, Baijal appealed to the protesters to call off their agitation as it has been causing inconvenience to schoolchildren, patients and the general public. The delegation reportedly submitted a memorandum of their demands including the withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The protesters also agreed that they would allow passage to school buses. However, they said that the protest would continue. The L-G also tweeted about the meeting with the Shaheen Bagh protesters. He tweeted, “Met the delegation of protestors from Shaheen Bagh. Assured them to convey their concerns to appropriate authorities. Appealed to call off their agitation in view of continued inconvenience to school children, patients, daily commuters, local residents, etc. due to blockade of road.” In another tweet, Baijal, once again requested the Shaheen Bagh protesters to maintain peace and order. Thousands of people including women and children, have been protesting at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh since December 15, 2019, days after the Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed in Parliament. On Sunday, a complaint was also filed against the protesters. On January 17, the Delhi police had appealed to the agitators to unblock the Kalindi Kunj-Shaheen Bagh stretch.
