Srinagar/New Delhi, August 17: Days after Shah Faesal, the IAS officer who quit the bureaucracy to launch his own political party in Jammu & Kashmir last year, was arrested at the Delhi airport, it has been revealed that he was on his way to the International Court of Justice. Arrested on Monday under Public Safety Act (PSA), Faesal was bound to fly to Istanbul from where he was scheduled to reach the ICJ, in The Hague, Netherlands, to file a case against the Indian government for revoking Article 370.

According to a report, published in The New Indian Express, J&K Peoples Movement (JKPM) president was taken to Sheri Kashmir International Convention Centre at Srinagar from the airport by the police authorities. Later, he was shifted to a makeshift detention centre at the Centaur Hotel here on Thursday. Shah Faesal Shifted to Detention Centre at Centaur Hotel

However, Faesal's mother Mubeena Banoo had stated that the former bureaucrat was planning to go to the US in connection with his academic pursuits and had also planned to visit Turkey. They also informed that they came to know about his arrest only through news reports and had had no information about his whereabouts since detention. An official stated that only women members of the family have been allowed to meet Faesal.

Earlier, Faesal had criticised the 'unprecedented' lock-down in the Valley with its eight million population 'incarcerated' like never before post the removal of special status to Jammu and Kashmir, provided under Article 370. He is among the last political leaders who have been placed under house arrest.

Last week, the Jammu and Kashmir authorities airlifted a fresh batch of 20 'potential troublemakers' from Srinagar to Agra as a precautionary measure. Among those airlifted include president of Kashmir High Court Bar Association Mian Qayoom.
