Sextortion in Mumbai: Railway Employee Dies by Suicide After 'Facebook Friend' Threatens to Leak His Obscene Video on YouTube, Case Registered

Mumbai, October 11: Feeling harassed by a group of sextortionists, a 36-year-old railway employee committed himself on Monday, October 9, by stepping in front of an oncoming train in Mumbai's Matunga. On Tuesday, the Government Railway Police filed a complaint of abetment to suicide against three persons, including a woman, who had been seeking money from the victim. However, no arrests have been made so far in the matter.

Police discovered a letter in the man's pocket that stated he had befriended a lady, Komal Sharma, on the social media site Facebook and that she had filmed an obscene video of him and threatened to post it on YouTube if he did not pay up. On October 9, the victim left his house about 6 am for work. His wife contacted him at 10.30 am to discuss their children's education. He informed his wife that he was busy with work and that they might talk about it later. Around 3.50 pm, his wife received a phone call from police informing her that he had been hit by a train at Matunga station and had sustained significant injuries. She rushsed to Sion Hospital, where she learned he had died.

Despite being blackmailed by Sharma, the victim did not initially pay her any money, according to the FIR. Sharma later claimed that she had filed a complaint with the "cybercrime police" in Delhi, and he began receiving calls from a "cybercrime officer," Prem Prakash, who threatened him with legal action and demanded Rs 2 lakh. According to the police officials, the victim's family had no clue that he was being harassed and blackmailed by the group of sextortionists.
