Mumbai, January 18: Singapore Airlines Group's budget arm Scoot announced that it would expand its operations in India. The budget airlines will extend its network in three cities namely- Coimbatore, Trivandrum and Visakhapatnam.
Reportedly, the operations in these networks will begin from May this year.
The company said in a press release that Scoot will be the sole airline operating direct non-stop flights from Trivandrum and Visakhapatnam to Singapore. Also, sister airline SilkAir's operations on the new routes will be transferred to Scoot.
As of now, Scoot has operations in seven Indian cities like Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Lucknow, and Tiruchirappalli–from Singapore. Scoot Airline Allegedly Refuses to Fly Child With Special Needs, Asks Parents to Deplane.
The flight service from Trivandrum to Singapore will begin from May 7, 2019, while the services from Coimbatore and Visakhapatnam will commence from October 27, later the year. However, the release added that commencement of all new routes will be subject to regulatory approval.
In December 2018, NokScoot, which is a joint venture of Thailand's Nok Air and Singapore based Scoot, had announced the start of flight operation from Delhi to Bangkok and had said that they would be planning a partnership with an Indian airline.
The Thailand-based airline operates a total of eight flights on the Delhi-Bangkok route every week. The airline’s Deputy CEO Toh Giam Ming had said that it is mainly looking at leisure travellers on this route and would add more destination from India next year.
