In a tragic incident, 59 students and a teacher were reported to be injured in an explosion due to a science experiment in Holy Family High School in Kerala’s Angamaly on Saturday around 11:30 am.
Thiruvananthapuram, September 16: In a tragic incident, 59 students and a teacher were reported to be injured in an explosion due to a science experiment in Holy Family High School in Kerala’s Angamaly on Saturday around 11:30 am. The incident occurred after a working model of a volcano exploded. The workshop was conducted in the grounds near the back gate and the cycle shed of the school. As per reports, the volcano was made by covering a half feet long PVC pipe filled with an explosive substance with layers of mud.
The police said that the explosive substance was used for a longer time to display the eruption effect of the volcano and a tile was used to sustain the fire. An eyewitness told The Times of India that pieces of tiles and stones hit the students who were standing around the model after the explosion.
According to a report published in The News Minute, Two students were admitted into a private hospital in the town while the remaining students suffered minor injuries. The case has been registered against the school for negligent handling of explosive substances. According to the report, Samples from the explosion have been sent to a lab in Kakkanad for chemical analysis and to the forensic lab in Thiruvananthapuram.
