Mysuru, July 16: A government-run school in Mysuru's Nanjangud taluka was under threat of a shut down due to low attendance from students. Hence, the school principal and the teachers of the school had come up with an innovative idea to paint the institution building that resembles a train coach. The plan helped and the students who usually bunked the classes started attending their classes. Besides this, the admissions also saw a steep rise.
As per a news report in The Hindu, the villagers have never seen a train. Moreover, the place does not have direct bus connectivity. So people have to walk a few miles to travel from one location to another. The teachers of the school thought making the building attractive will draw students to the school. And while browsing the internet, they came upon the idea of painting the building to make it look like a train.
The report further details that to execute the idea the school staff shelled money from their own pockets. School Headmaster Basavanaik and teachers Doreswamy, Tarannum and Netravathi spent Rs 25,000 from their own pockets to paint the three-classroom building like a train coach. Furthermore, they employed two artists from Mysuru for it. The school has currently 55 students studying in classes one to the seventh standard.
At a time when government schools are facing pressure from private schools, the teachers’ effort to save the government-aided school, the only hope for needy children, is receiving a lot of appreciation from various quarters.
