Mumbai, July 19: The School & Company Bus Owners' Association - the union of school bus operators in city - has decided to join the strike called by truck drivers across the nation. Their participation in the stir will hit parents who used bus services for the commutation of their children to schools.
The bus owners' body chief Anil Garg said they do not intend to cause inconvenience to the students and their parents. However, he added, their demands will benefit all commuters in the long-run.
The nation-wide strike has been called by the All India Transport Motor Congress (AITMC). Nearly 93 lakh trucks and several thousands of transport buses will participate in the indefinite strike.
Bal Malkit Singh of AIMTC said they have been forced to take the step as the government has been constantly being ignoring their concerns.
The rising diesel prices is the moot point of their strike, with the AITMC demanding the government to bring down the rates with immediate effect, along with ordering the oil corporations to alter the rates once in six months to prevent daily fluctuation in rates.
The union has also demanded relaxation in GST on purchase of new buses, along with abolishing the e-way tax imposed.
Among their charter of demands also include the abolishment of tolls across India to create hassle-free commutation of goods and services.
The transporters' body has also demanded better-quality roads, claiming the potholes are extremely dangerous to the lives of drivers and passengers. The school bus owners have demanded parking facility in the vicinity of educational institutes.
