Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel 68th Death Anniversary: Nation Remembers the ‘Iron Man’ of India, Leaders Pay Tribute
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first home minister and also the first deputy prime minister, died today 68 years ago, at the age of 75.
New Delhi, December 15: The nation on Saturday remembered Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the 'Iron Man of India', on his 68th death anniversary. President of India, Ram Nath Kovind is scheduled to pay tributes at the Statue of Unity in Ahmedabad today. The President will also lay the foundation stone for a world-class railway station at Kevadiya, which is 5 km from the 'Statue of Unity' structure.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Patel on his death anniversary on Saturday. The Prime Minister took to Twitter and said, "Remembering the great Sardar Patel on his Punya Tithi. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar remembered Patel and said he still continues to inspire millions. “Let's remember and pay homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India on his death anniversary. His selfless service to the nation, knowledge and principles continue to inspire millions”, he said.
The Congress party remembered Patel on his 68th death anniversary today. The official Twitter handle of the Congress party tweeted, "Sardar Vallabhai Patel, known as 'Iron Man of India', was the first Home Minister & Deputy Prime Minister of independent India. A stalwart of the Congress Party he valiantly fought the British & worked tirelessly to unite the country. We salute his valour and honour him today".
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took remembered the Iron Man of India on his death anniversary and said his persona was an epitome of selfless service & wisdom. "Remembering the architect of United India and the Iron Man of India, Sardar VallabhBhai Patel Ji on his death anniversary. His persona was an epitome of selfless service & wisdom which continues to inspire millions of hearts across the Nation", he tweeted.
Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore paid his humble tributes to the architect of a united, free India, the Iron Man. "We'll forever be indebted to his priceless contributions that laid a strong foundation for India to grow into a prosperous country", he tweeted.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first home minister and also the first deputy prime minister, died today 68 years ago, at the age of 75. Patel's health declined rapidly through the summer of 1950. He later began coughing blood, whereupon Maniben began limiting her meetings and working hours and arranged for a personalised medical staff to begin attending to Patel. After suffering a massive heart attack (his second), Patel died on 15 December 1950 at Birla House in Bombay.
