Saradha Chit Fund Scam: CBI Searches Residence of Former Kolkata Police Chief Rajeev Kumar

In the latest twist in Saradha Chit Fund case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CB) on Sunday issued a notice to former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to appear at the Kolkata CBI office tomorrow.

Kolkata, May 26: In the latest twist in Saradha Chit Fund case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CB) on Sunday issued a notice to former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to appear at the Kolkata CBI office tomorrow. The CBI team also carried out a search operation at Kumar’s house. Earlier in the day, the CBI issued a lookout notice against the former Kolkata police commissioner. Kumar has been named accused with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam case. This notice has been issued to prevent him from leaving the country. The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the petition of Kumar seeking an extension of his protection from arrest, which ended on May 24.

The top court rejected Kumar’s plea till concerned jurisdictional court in West Bengal decides his anticipatory bail plea. A vacation bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra said Kumar can approach the Calcutta High Court or the trial court there for seeking relief. The investigation in the Saradha chit fund scam began in 2014, where over 1.7 million depositors were duped to the extent of Rs 3,500 crore.
