Hyderabad, July 22: The wife of Colonel B. Santosh Babu, martyred in a clash with Chinese troops in Ladakh's Galwan valley on June 15, has been appointed as Deputy Collector by the Telangana government. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Wednesday met Colonel Santosh Babu's wife Santoshi and handed over the appointment letter as Deputy Collector to her. The Chief Minister directed officials that Santoshi should be posted near Hyderabad. Colonel Santosh Babu's family has also been given a plot located in Banjara Hills in Hyderabad. District Collector Swetha Mohanthy handed over the papers of the plot, measuring 711 square yards and located at Banjara Hills Road No 14, to the martyr's family. Last month, KCR had met family members of Colonel Santosh Babu, consoled them, and handed over the cheques for ex gratia announced by the state for the family. He had handed over a cheque for Rs 4 crore to the Colonel's wife Santoshi and cheque for another Rs 1 crore to his parents, who requested for the amount to be deposited for their granddaughter. KCR had announced the package for Santosh Babu's family on June 19.

The Colonel is survived by his father, mother Manjula, wife Santoshi, daughter Abhigna,9, and son Anirudh, 4. Twenty Indian soldiers, including Colonel Santosh Babu, were martyred in an unprecedented clash with Chinese troops in Galwan valley last month.
