Incessant rains continued to batter Mumbai even on Tuesday prompting the local authorities to take emergency measures. The heavy downpour flooded several roads, leading to traffic jams which decelerated the pace of the maximum city. People across the city were seen negotiating their way through knee-deep water.
The IMD said that a low-pressure area is very likely to form over north Bay of Bengal around July 13 and become more marked thereafter. Schools and colleges were asked to remain closed for the day. Commuters faced a harrowing time as local trains were also running behind schedule due to waterlogging on railway tracks. The rains in Mumbai was the highest recorded this season.
The India Meteorological Department forecast on Monday had forecasted that monsoon rains over north and central India would pick up in the next 4-5 days, even as heavy rainfall continued to hammer coastal Maharashtra and Goa.
