Following an escalating conflict, the accused allegedly sought revenge for public humiliation after being slapped multiple times. On October 3, authorities discovered the vendor's body, prompting an immediate investigation.
According to a report by the Times of India, the deceased, Jaswant Diwakar, was found with his throat slit in a village under the Baniather police station. Investigators learned that the altercation began when Jaswant confronted the accused, Jitendra Kumar, regarding his inappropriate behaviour towards Jaswant's sister. Tensions escalated, leading to a physical confrontation that resulted in Jaswant slapping Jitendra multiple times, which the latter viewed as a significant affront. The police investigation revealed that Jitendra had been harbouring a grudge against Jaswant, repeatedly gesturing to others in the village that he would take revenge. The turning point in the case came when Jitendra returned home on the evening of October 2 without his clothes, raising suspicions among his family. Concerned, they notified the authorities, who subsequently questioned Jitendra and connected him to the crime. During the interrogation, Jitendra confessed to the murder and led police to recover the knife used in the brutal attack. According to SP Sambhal, Krishan Kumar, Jitendra had purchased the knife about a year ago and had been carrying it for over a month with the intention of killing Jaswant. The accused has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence and has been remanded to jail as the investigation continues.
