Shirdi, November 27: The Saibaba Sansthan Trust removed two signboards after protests members for the Muslim community in Maharashtra's Shirdi. The protests erupted over replacing ‘Dwarkamai Masjid’ with ‘Dwarkamai Mandir’ on the two signboards. However, the trust removed the billboards directing towards Dwarkamai on Tuesday. The protesters alleged that the Shirdi Saibaba Sansthan Trust is being saffronised. The Inscription of Om word on the Sai flag pillar recently further aggravated the tension. The protestors demanded that newly installed ‘saffron’ boards and flags be removed within eight days. The locals who were protesting also accused the new committee and its members of changing the colours almost all the signboards. A letter has also been submitted before Shirdi Saibaba Sansthan Trust’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Notably, the rituals in the Sai temple have always been performed as per Hindu customs.
The controversy erupted almost a month after the centenary festival of the Shirdi Saibaba Samadhi, which began on October 17 and concluded on October 19. During the three-day celebrations, the temple received donations worth Rs 5.97 crore.
Sai Baba is known as the one worshipped by all as nobody knew his real name or religion. He is known as ‘Faqir’. Sai Baba first made his appearance in Shirdi as a youth and remained there throughout his life, devoting his life in the service of people. He attained samadhi on October 15, 1918.
