Lucknow, January 7: Social activist and Congress worker Sadaf Jafar, hours after getting released from Lucknow jail on Tuesday, alleged that she was mistreated in custody and faced violence in the jail. Jafar made the allegations while talking to news channel NDTV. Safar said that she could not identify the officials who abused her and beat her up but alleged that she was also called a "Pakistani" while in custody. The Congress worker and social activist Sadaf Jafar and former IPS officer SR Darapuri were released from Lucknow jail on Tuesday after two weeks. The two were arrested in December for their involvement in the anti-CAA protests that took place in Lucknow and were given bail on Saturday, after sending two weeks in jail. The court also granted bail to 10 other protesters besides Jafar and former IPS officer SR Darapuri.

On December 19, violent protests broke out in Lucknow during the anti-CAA and NRC protests where protesters pelted stones and burned vehicles parked outside one of the police post. Sadaf Jafar and many others were arrested and FIR was registered against 34 people. On December 28, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited SR Darapuri's family and the next day she met the family of Sadaf Jafar in Lucknow.
