Kochi, October 25: Around 1,400 people have been arrested till now by the Kerala Police for protesting against the Supreme Court’s decision of allowing women of all ages, reported CNN News18. Meanwhile, 250 cases have also been registered against the protesters. In a crucial judgment on September 28, the apex court pronounced the verdict by 4:1 majority. The then Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, Justices AM Khanwilkar, Nariman, Chandrachud were in favour of allowing the entry, while Justice Indu Malhotra dissented.

The apex court’s verdict on Sabarimala Temple has evoked mixed reactions, while the BJP and Kerala Congress unit opposed women’s entry in the shrine, the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government said it would follow the apex court’s order. The devotees contended that they were not a party in the case in which the SC had passed the judgment and thus should now be heard. Earlier on October 19, woman activist Rehana Fatima and Kavitha Jakkal, a journalist, had tried and failed to enter the Sabarimala temple. Both of them had to stop after the head priest warned them that he would close the gates and stop all the rituals. After the police explained to them the whole scenario, both of them agreed to return.
