New Delhi, July 18: A day after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled the Kulbhushan Jadhav case in favour of India, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday assured that the government will vigorously continue its efforts to ensure his safety and well being, as well as his early return to India. During his address in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Jaishankar informed that the ICJ, by a vote of 15-1, upheld India's claim that Pakistan is in violation of Vienna Convention on several counts. "We once again call upon Pakistan to release and repatriate Kulbhushan Jadhav", he added. In his address, Jaishankar said that the ICJ has directed that Pakistan is under an obligation to inform Jadhav without further delay of his rights and to provide Indian consular officers access to him in accordance with Vienna Convention.

Adding further, Jaishankar informed that in 2017, the government had made commitment on floor of the House to undertake all steps necessary to protect interest&welfare of Jadhav. "Govt has made untiring efforts in seeking his release including through legal means in ICJ", he said.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha Chairman and BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu said he is happy to see the house welcoming the judgment of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) verdict on Kulbhushan Jadhav. "I am very happy that the entire House is together in welcoming the ICJ judgement. Hope we will pursue till Kulbhushan is discharged and released", Naidu added.
On Wednesday, the ICJ while ruling in favour of India threw out three objections raised by Pakistan on admissibility of India's application against the death sentence awarded to Jadhav by a Pakistani military court. India moved the ICJ on May 8, 2017 after a Pakistani military court sentenced Jadhav to death for alleged espionage.
