RK Dhawan, Senior Congress Leader Passes Away in Delhi at The Age of 81

It must be noted that Dhawan was a close aide of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He was also a witness in the assassination case of the former PM.

New Delhi, August 6: Veteran Congress leader RK Dhawan breathed his last on Sunday in the national capital at the age of 81. Dhawan was a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and he had been a member of Rajya Sabha. Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala took to Twitter and paid homage to the senior leader.

"Our homage to veteran Congress leader, Sh. R.K.Dhawan, who breathed his last today. His tireless spirit, immeasurable commitment & untiring dedication to the Congress ideals will always be remembered. RIP", Surjewala tweeted.

It must be noted that Dhawan was a close aide of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He was also a witness in the assassination case of the former PM. Dhawan was a former personal secretary and confidante to Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The senior Congress leader was a witness to Indira Gandhi assassination in 1984. As personal assistant to the Prime Minister, he attained unparalleled power and influence, particularly during India's Emergency.

As the "doorkeeper" to the Prime Minister, he was well positioned to control information and access and proved himself instrumental in civil service appointments. He studied in Col. Brown Cambridge School, Dehra Dun and B.H.U.
