Hawaii Islands, July 26: During the world’s largest maritime military exercise Rimpac, India provided medical assistance to Australian ship on Wednesday. INS Sahyadari while operating deep into the Pacific for RIMPAC18 provided medical assistance to Australian Naval ship HMNS Melbourne by sending medical officers by boat to attend a medical case.
The Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise is the world’s largest maritime biennial exercise. This time a total of 25 nations, 25,000 personnel, land forces from 18 countries, 47 surface ships, five submarines and more than 200 aircraft are participating in the exercise. The Indian Navy has deployed INS Sahyadri, an indigenously built Shivalik Class stealth multirole frigate for the exercise. It is commanded by Captain Shantanu Jha.
The exercise will continue till August 2. China was also invited to participate in the exercise, but the invitation was revoked by the United States in May as a protest against the continued militarisation of artificial islands in the South China Sea. RIMPAC was first conducted in 1971. It is the 26th edition of the exercise.
