A rescue team on Thursday saved a rhino calf from drowning in the water at Kaziranga National Park in Assam where floods continued to wreak havoc.
Kaziranga, July 18: With the floodwaters submerging 90 per cent of the Kaziranga National Park in Assam, animals are worst affected. Animals are forced to leave their shelter at the Kaziranga National Park and head towards higher land in adjoining areas of Karbi Anglong. On Thursday, a video surfaced showing a rescue team saving a rhino calf from drowning in the water at Kaziranga National Park.
In the video shared by news agency ANI, officials of a rescue team are seen saving a rhino calf from drowning in the water. A total of 57 animals have been rescued so far out of which four died on arrival at the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC). As many as 50 animals, including five rhinos, have died in Kaziranga National Park as floods continue to wreak havoc in Assam. Rhino calf saved from drowning at Kaziranga National Park:
As 90 per cent of the Kaziranga National Park is submerged, animals are heading towards civilian areas to take shelter. On Thursday, a Royal Bengal Tiger had entered a house in Harmati village. The tiger was seen relaxing on the bed. Later, the forest officials arrived at the spot and preparations were underway to relocate the tiger to a safer place.
Kaziranga National Park in Assam is home to the world’s largest population of Indian one-horned rhinoceroses. Other animals like tigers and elephants are also found in the forest.
