Rewari, September 20: Maha Panchayat of 51 villages was organised in Rewari on Friday over the recent gangrape of a CBSE topper in the district. A Jan Sangarsh Committee was formed to help the Rewari gangrape victim get justice and also to help prevent similar incidents from occurring in future. The Haryana police had arrested the main accused Nishu, while other two accused including an army man are still absconding. The police had also arrested two other men in the case -- Dr Sanjeev, who first attended to the woman following the crime, and Deen Dayal, at whose room she was allegedly raped.
The main accused Nishu has been sent to four days of police remand, while Dr Sanjeev and Deen Dayal have been sent to 14 days judicial custody. According to the police, all the three accused were known to the 19-year-old victim. Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday had also appealed to the people of Haryana to not "harbour" those accused in the Rewari Gangrape case. Chief Minister Khattar also warned those harbouring the accused of strict punishment and added that the remaining two accused would soon be arrested.
The 19-year-old girl, a school topper, hailing from Rewari was abducted from a bus stop in Kanina town in Mahendragarh earlier this month. The incident took place when she was on her way to a coaching class. As per details by the police, the victim was allegedly drugged and gang-raped at a room adjoining a tubewell in an agricultural field.
