Chandigarh, Sept 16: Five days after the brutal sexual assault on a 19-year-old girl in Haryana's Rewari, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the government has reportedly made the first arrest. Meanwhile, the three main accused, identified by the SIT yesterday, are yet to be held.
The person arrested today has been identified as Deendayal, said reports. He is accused of renting the place where the teenager was gangraped. The SIT has taken him into custody for interrogation.
Haryana DGP B S Sandhu said the police will soon apprehend the three main accused, which includes a serving defence personnel. posted in Rajasthan. "We are getting a warrant against him," the DGP said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, the victim's mother spoke to news agency ANI, claiming that some officials had approached her on Saturday with compensatory cheques. "I am returning it today, as we want justice and not money. It has now been 5 days and none of the accused have been arrested till now," she said.
Notably, the victim was a CBSE topper. The sexual assault has left her in a state of physical and mental trauma, with her condition being monitored at the district hospital in Rewari.
