The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir for 90 constituencies were held in three phases. In the first phase, 24 assembly constituencies went to poll on September 18, followed by 26 seats in the second phase on September 25. The third and final phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections saw 40 constituencies going to poll on October 1. While most of the exit polls have given an edge to the NC-Congress alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, the saffron party has expressed confidence in winning the Union Territory. The Jammu and Kashmir assembly election results 2024 will give the Union Territory its first elected government post abrogation of Article 370 and downgrading of the state into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. In the last assembly elections held in 2014, the People’s Democratic Front (PDP), which won 28 seats, emerged as the single largest party, followed by BJP, which won 25 seats. The National Conference and Congress won 15 and 12 seats, respectively, with JKPC winning 2 seats, CPI(M) and others 1 seat each, and Independents 3 seats. The counting of votes for all 90 assembly seats of Jammu and Kashmir began at 8 AM and will conclude once ECI officially announces the results of all seats. The National Conference and Congress contested the Jammu and Kashmir assembly election together, while the BJP went solo. Today's assembly election results of the Union Territory will also seal the fate of several key candidates, including NC leader Omar Abdullah, BJP Jammu and Kashmir president Ravinder Raina, PDP’s Iltija Mufti, Usman Majid, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Choudhary Lal Singh among others.
