New Delhi, January 25: The preparation for Republic Day 2019 is on full swing and India is all geared up to celebrate the 70th Republic Day. Among the most important attractions on the national festival of India is the Republic Day parade that takes place every year on 26 January at Rajpath, New Delhi.  The parade aims to showcase India's defence capability and its cultural and social heritage. Republic Day 2019 Significance: Know the Importance & History Behind 26 January Celebrated as India’s Republic Day.

Following are the features of the Republic Day parade 2019:

The Republic Day celebrations will begin after the laying of a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 2019 Republic Day celebration will be special as this year marks the 150th birth anniversary of ‘Father of the Nation’. Mahatma Gandhi is the central theme of the 22 participating tableaux.

Talking about the state tableaus, Arunachal Pradesh tableau is themed "Peace Within" and shows a tribal Monpa child placing flowers at Gandhi's feet. Other dancers invoke a clean and peaceful village. It also presents masks, carpets and traditional arts, while Buddhist monks chant for peace.

The state's 'Gungtey' folk dance form, performed by men and women, celebrates closeness to nature. An artiste from the troupe related it to Gandhi's message on cleanliness and hygiene and hoped more people will learn about the dance form on Saturday.

Tamil Nadu's presentation depicts the Father of the Nation switching to a loincloth from his formal Western attire. It shows a seated Gandhi shedding his headgear and formal clothing, the Madurai building where he made his first appearance in the loincloth, and the city's Meenakshi Amman temple.

The Jammu & Kashmir tableau shows Mahatma Gandhi with the charkha. The father of the nation used the charkha (spinning wheel) to represent self-reliance and the message of swadeshi.

The honorable delegates of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2019, which was held in Varanasi from January 21st to 23rd , will also be witnessing the parade at 70th Indian Republic Day celebrations.

The Prime Minister was earlier scheduled to inaugurate the ‘National War Memorial’ near India Gate on the eve of Republic Day on January 25. However, the inauguration postponed as construction work is still incomplete, officials sources confirmed.

The Indian Air Force will fly an aircraft which will run by blended bio-fuel on the Republic Day 2019. Reports say the aircraft will fly over Rajpath with a ‘V’ shape formation. The 'V' shape formation stands for victory sign.

The number of women from armed forces participating in this year’s Republic Day Parade would be the highest till date showcasing the growing role of the gender in the services. Captain Shikha Surabhi of the Army’s Corps of Signal will be saluting President Ram Nath Kovind while standing on a bike. (With Agency Inputs)
