New Delhi, January 26: India is celebrating its 70th Republic day today. On this occasion, Rashtrapati Bhavan is illuminated in tricolour. Meanwhile, buildings of various ministries in North Block and South Block in New Delhi are also adorned in the colours of the national flag on the Republic Day. Marking the 70th Republic Day, various events were held across the country. Different contingencies showcased the country's cultural, tradition. Contingents of the all the three wings of the armed forces marched down the lanes of Rajpath in New Delhi. Military strength was also displayed during the parade. After August 15 (Independence Day), the 26th of January is considered the most important day. the Republic Day marks the coming into force of India's own constitution and the nation becoming a 'Republic' in the real sense of the word. The Indian Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on November 26, 1949. However, it came into effect January 26, 1950, with a democratic government system.
