New Delhi, July 2: The Interpol has issued a red corner notice against Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud accused Nirav Modi, paving way for his extradition by Indian agencies. According to reports, the arrest of Modi is imminent now that a red corner notice has been issued against the Indian diamantaire. The RCN came after the Central Bureau of Investigation, which is probing the $2 billion fraud, submitted documents, including FIRs and chargesheet, in the case to Interpol.

India had earlier requested a group of countries to deny entry to Modi.

Modi is reportedly in the UK and needs to be extradited. Addressing media last week, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, “We have sent messages to a group of countries requesting them to help the Indian government in denying entry to Nirav Modi and to inform us if he is residing in that country. So far we have not received any extradition request in respect of Nirav Modi.”

The MEA also clarified that Nirav Modi was not in possession of more than one passport as was being reported. “Nirav Modi was issued a fresh passport only after his previous passport was physically cancelled. At no stage, he had more than one valid passport in his possession. In February his passport was suspended and eventually revoked,” MEA said.

The PNB had detected a $ 1.77 billion scam, in which jeweller Nirav Modi had acquired fraudulent letters of undertaking from one of its branches for overseas credit from other Indian lenders.
