Kolkata, August 5: A red alert has been issued along the Indo-Bangladesh border after 17 suspected Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorists were nabbed by Bangladesh security forces on Friday. The alert has been issued at the riverine stretch along Malda and Murshidabad districts of West Bengal. The terrorists were arrested from a hideout in Monakosha in Chapai Nawabganj district of Bangladesh which is just a few kilometres away from the international border on Friday night.

According to a report published in The New Indian Express, the hideout was busted after three suspected JMB terrorists were interrogated. These three terrorists were arrested in a joint operation by the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the same area on July 29. The Border Security Force (BSF) was alerted by the BGB as terrorists hiding in the area might cross over to India to seek a safe haven.

According to the report, the security has been tightened along the border. Chapai Nawabganj is considered to be a hub of JMB activities like printing Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) and smuggling country-made weapons.

On July 24, Uttar Pradesh anti-terror squad (ATS) nabbed two members JMB from Greater Noida in a joint operation with the West Bengal Police. The two was arrested from Surajpur police station area in Greater Noida and were taken for interrogation by officials of the UP ATS and intelligence department.
