New Delhi, August 22: Ratul Puri, the nephew of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, has moved before a Delhi court seeking to surrender in AgustaWestland case. The surrender application comes two days after he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate for an alleged Rs 354 crore bank fraudery involving the now-defunct Moser Baer.
Puri has been accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of being involved in an alleged money laundering case linked to the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper case. Puri's anticipatory bail application was rejected by the Delhi High Court on Monday, whereas, another Delhi-based court dismissed his plea seeking interim protection from arrest on Tuesday.
Kamal Nath has decried the action being taken against Puri, accusing the BJP-led central government of practicing the politics of vendetta. "He is being deliberately targeted," the senior Congress leader said.
Meanwhile, Puri is currently in the custody of Enforcement Directorate. The agency sleuths arrested him on Tuesday, following questioning in the Moser Baer case.
Puri, who was a senior executive in the company, is accused of forging documents to swindle nearly Rs 354 crore loan taken from banks.
