New Delhi, December 10: The iconic Rashtrapati Bhavan was lit up in orange colour as part of a United Nations' campaign against violence faced by women across the world. The Rashtrapati Bhavan, official residence of President of India, was illuminated with saffron lighting to raise awareness about violence against women. The illumination of Rashtrapati Bhavan with orange lighting as part of the UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign. The pictures were also shared by the UN Women Twitter handle. Launched in 2008, former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign is a multi-year effort aimed at preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls around the world. UNiTE calls on governments, civil society, women’s organizations, young people, the private sector, the media and the entire UN system to join forces in addressing the global pandemic of violence against women and girls.

Rashtrapati Bhavan Lit Up in Orange Colour:

In recent months, India has witnessed gruesome incidents of rape and killing of women. In Telangana's Hyderabad, four men gang-raped and killed a veterinarian. Her body was set on fire after the heinous crime. The accused were killed in an encounter when they allegedly tried to escape on the intervening night of September 27 and 28. In Uttar Pradesh's Unnao, a woman was set ablaze by men against whom she filed a rape case. She died last week in a hospital.
