Rape Case Against Narayan Sai: Surat Court Likely to Pronounce Verdict On Asaram's Son Today
A Surat sessions court is likely to pronounce its verdict in a rape case against convicted self-styled godman Asaram's son Narayan Sai. The verdict is expected on Friday in the 11-year-old case.
Surat, April 26: A Surat sessions court is likely to pronounce its verdict in a rape case against convicted self-styled godman Asaram's son Narayan Sai. The verdict is expected on Friday in the 11-year-old case. In the said case, Narayan Sai and Asaram have been accused of rape by two sisters in Surat. While Narayan Sai has been accused of raping the younger sister, the elder sister has alleged that she was raped by Asaram. Asaram Moves Mercy Plea, Calls Life Sentence 'Gruelling Punishment'.
Narayan Sai has been in jail since 2013. He had gone missing after charges were levelled against him in the said case. The police found him on the Delhi-Haryana border in 2013 after which he was taken into custody.
At least 53 witnesses have been presented in court in the case against Narayan Sai. Reports say some of these witness accounts play an important role in the case.
Narayan Sai was also accused of bribing police officials in the case with Rs 13 crore. He is on bail in the bribery case.
Meanwhile, Asaram has been in Jodhpur jail, serving a life sentence in another rape case, in which he was convicted in April 2018. On April 2018, Asaram was given a life sentence under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, for raping a minor girl in Manai village near Jodhpur on August 15, 2013.
