New Delhi, October 27: Manoj Singh Sengar, the younger brother of the rape-accused former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar, died in Delhi on Saturday. Manoj Singh Sengar was one of the accused in the Unnao rape survivor's accident case. According to a report, he complained of restlessness and chest pain on October 26 and was rushed the Maualabn Azad Medical College. He died shortly after. "It is a shock for the family, the reason for the death of my uncle is still not clear. All the family members are on their way to Delhi and postmortem is being done. Only after that will we know what really happened to him," Manoj's nephew, Prakhar Pratap Singh, was quoted by News18 as saying. Manoj was booked under sections of the IPC related to criminal conspiracy, murder and criminal intimidation in the rape survivor's car accident case. The woman, who was allegedly raped by Kuldeep Sengar in 2017 at a time when she was a minor, suffered grievous injuries in July when a truck rammed into the car she was in, killing two of her relatives, in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli district. In a chargesheet filed in October, the Central Bureau of Investigation did not slap murder charges on Sengar, who has been booked under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation).
The matter of sexual assault came to the fore when the woman attempted self-immolation in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence. Next day, her father was arrested on alleged false charges levelled by the family of Sengar. He was allegedly assaulted inside the prison and he died of the injuries. Kuldeep Sengar was arrested on April 13 last year in connection with the rape case. He is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
