Mumbai, November 2: The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) on Friday said it would resort to 1992-like agitation for construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya if the need arises. In 1992, then Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Lal Krishna Advani led a nation-wide Rath Yatra, which saw the participation of thousands of members of RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal who demolished Babri Masjid on December 6.

RSS spokesperson Bhaiyyaji Joshi said the possibility of the similar procession cannot be ruled out. “Avashyakta padi to karenge (We will do so if the need arises)," Joshi said on being asked if the RSS would consider launching a 1992-like agitation to erect Ram Mandir on the disputed land in Ayodhya. Expressing disappointment over delay in the Supreme Court's verdict, Joshi said the judgement should favour the majority sentiments. Ayodhya Act 1993: When Congress Passed Law For Construction of Ram Mandir And BJP Opposed it.

"Ram lives in our hearts but is accessible to people through temples. We want the temple to be built. Though there are hindrances in the path, we hope the Supreme Court would consider Hindu sentiments before reaching a verdict," the RSS spokesperson said. Joshi reiterated the RSS demand that the government should consider enacting a law or promulgating an ordinance to pave the way for constructing the temple. His remarks came at the end of a three-day long RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal conclave held near Uttan Beach of Bhayander town. Earlier today, BJP president Amit Shah met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. Both the RSS and BJP remained tight-lipped on what was discussed between Shah and Bhagwat. “The meeting was related to the party (BJP), but not the RSS conclave," an RSS functionary told news agency PTI.
