Lucknow, January 1: With the date for Ayodhya land dispute case to be heard by the Supreme Court this week, Shia Central Waqf Board called for a meeting to discuss its stance with the members on Tuesday. In the meeting, the issue of Babri Masjid (mosque) to be rebuilt elsewhere is expected to be addressed.
According to the list of the hearing in the Supreme Court, the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title dispute case is scheduled on January 4, which would be heard by a bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. Earlier, the court had put off hearing the temple case in October. It had turned down the requests for early hearings from the Yogi Adityanath government and others. Stating that the Shia Waqf board is alone entitled to negotiate with other stakeholders to arrive at a settlement for the mosque, it had already filed a 30-page affidavit before the top court.
Confirming the meeting of the board members, controversial chairman of the Shia Waqf Board Waseem Rizvi had said, as reported by The Hindustan Times, “Now that the hearing in the case is scheduled to commence from January 4, I have called a meeting with our lawyers to discuss the way forward on how best we can resolve the issue.”
He had also proposed for the construction of the mosque in a Muslim dominated area; however, it was not considered by the members. He had said, “Let the temple come up at the disputed site, we are open to building a mosque in a Muslim-dominated area, at a reasonable distance from the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site.” Ram Temple in Ayodhya: Babri Masjid Action Committee to Approach Supreme Court If Centre Promulgates Ordinance.
The case relates with the disputed 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya, which the Allahabad High Court in September 2010 order had partitioned it among three parties, the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla (infant Lord Ram), represented by the Hindu Mahasabha. But, it was not accepted by the parties.
Claiming that Shia Board is also a main contender in the disputed land property, it had challenged Allahabad High Court’s September 2010 order.
