Mumbai, September 6: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Ghatkopar, Ram Kadam, issued a public apology on Wednesday evening, for his controversial remarks at a dahi handi festival on September 3 in Mumbai. He posted a video on Twitter apologising for his comments. In the video, the BJP MLA said that respect for my respect for mothers and sisters is most important for me. Kadam also blamed media for showing distorted video of what he said at the event.

His remarks drew flak from various sections of society as well from opposition parties. In response to Kadam’s remarks, a woman from Pune has thrown him an open challenge to “try and touch her”. In a video, Minakshi Dimble-Patil from Pune lambasted the MLA for his “scandalous” remarks, and she was ready to meet him in person to “test his statement.”

Apology offered by Ram Kadam:

Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday demanded stringent action against the BJP MLA for his remarks on women. Speaking at a press conference, Thackeray said, “Not only should strict action be taken against him, but he also should not be given a ticket by any party to contest future elections. He is a person of a low character and mentality."

At the dahi handi festival in his constituency on Monday night, Kadam was caught on camera offering youths to 'kidnap' girls whom they would like for marriage. He also went on to say that he would help youngsters if the girls they like reject their marriage proposal.
