Bijnor, July 30: All of us know that cow dung can be used as fertilizer, to produce biogas, insect repellent among others. However, Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor has come up with a bizarre use. The city is all set to witness eco-friendly rakhis, made of cow dung. The special rakhis are made by Shree Krishna Gaushala. The initiative is by NRI Alkha Lahoti (52), who decided to leave her foreign job to assist her father in running cowshed in Nagina village, reported The Times of India. The gaushala, who houses more than 100 cows, makes several products of cow dung. They produce flower-pots, cow dung slabs for cremation, and phenyl made of cow dung and urine. Now, the cowshed has shifted its focus to eco-friendly rakhis. "I am associated with Juna Akhara and had gone to Kumbh event this year and displayed my rakhis. There, our product was well received. The saints there asked me to make such type of rakhis for the public. Then, I contacted other experts and discussed the matter with them," Times of India quoted Alkha Lahoti adding that they have received orders from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Odisha.

Describing the eco-friendly rakhi, Lohoti said their product use threads instead of plastic. The rakhis can also be decomposed and turned into manure after use, she said. Meanwhile, Rakhsha Bandhan 2019 will be celebrated on 15 August along with Independence day.
