Rajya Sabha By-Elections 2019 For Uttar Pradesh and Bihar: ECI Announces Dates For Polling And Result For Bypolls on Two Seats

Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced that by-polls for two Rajya Sabha seats- one each from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh will be held on October 16. The seats have been vacant after the deaths of former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arun Jaitley and senior Supreme Court Advocate and former Union Minister, Ram Jethmalani.

Delhi, September 26: Election Commission of India on Thursday announced that by-polls for two Rajya Sabha seats -- one each from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh -- will be held on October 16. The seats have been vacant after the deaths of former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arun Jaitley and senior Supreme Court Advocate and former Union Minister, Ram Jethmalani. "The Commission has decided to hold bye-elections to the Council of states from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to fill up the above vacancies," Election Commission said. The term of Arun Jaitley and Ram Jethmalani were to end on August 24, 2024, and September 8, 2022, respectively.

Bypolls schedule:

The notification for the by-polls will be issued on September 27, the Commission said. The last date of nominations is October 6. The elections will be held on October 16 and the counting will take place on the same evening.
