Mumbai, September 29: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh witnessed prowess and firepower of Western Naval fleet during “day at sea” onboard INS Vikramaditya on Sunday. During his visit, the Defence Minister fired medium machine gun onboard the aircraft carrier. The video is shared by news agency ANI. Another video surfaced, in which the Defence Minister was seen presiding over complex naval ops including air interceptions, missile, gun and rocket firings, night flying and anti-submarine operations. After witnessing the prowess and firepower of the Western Fleet first hand, the Defence Minister said, “I am most impressed to see the professionalism, commitment and spirited approach shown by the brave sailors of the Indian Navy. I am reassured that the security of our nation is in safe hands”. Emphasising that security of India relies a lot on being strong at sea, Singh lauded the multi-dimensional approach adopted by the Navy to ensure safety and security in the country’s areas of maritime interest. He also commended the Western Fleet which was immediately deployed in a strong posture in the northern Arabian Sea when the Government effectively responded to the Pulwama attacks through strikes on terror camps in Balakot.
On Saturday, Singh commissioned the second of the Indian Navy's six Kalvari-class submarines INS Khanderi. The submarine is a diesel-electric attack submarine which is designed by French naval defence and energy company DCNS. The Defence Minister also launched Indian Navy’s first new stealth frigate, INS Nilgiri.
