Chennai, August 22: The Madras High Court on Thursday granted the extension of parole to Nalini Sriharan by three weeks, who is a convict in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Sriharan had earlier sought an extension of her ongoing parole by 30 days for making arrangements for her daughter's wedding.

Hearing the extension of parole plea by Sriharan, in which she gave her daughter's wedding as reason, the Madras High Court extended her parole by three weeks. Stating the reason for moving High Court with the petition, Sriharan had said that deputy inspector general of prisons rejected her representation for extension of the leave for another 30 days.

The High Court in July had granted her 30 days ordinary leave for making arrangements for her daughter's marriage. However, she claimed that she was not able to complete the arrangements for the wedding of her daughter within the leave period. Sriharan had been living at Sathuvachari after being released from the Vellore Central Prison on July 25.
