Sriharan, one of the convicts in the assassination case of former PM Rajiv Gandhi, in a letter to CM said, "I am the longest-serving woman prisoner in India. All of us have served more than 27 years in prison as life convicts. We have been expecting the order of your government every day. But we are disappointed every day after knowing that the Hon'ble Governor of Tamil Nadu is yet to sign the necessary proceedings." LTTE Issues Statement on Rajiv Gandhi’s Murder, Denies Charge of Assassinating Former PM.

Nalini Sriharan's letter to Tamil Nadu CM:

She further added, "Because of recent political development, we have become more confident that the Hon'ble Chief Minister will take every effort to convince the Hon'ble Governor of Tamil Nadu about the desirability of our immediate release from prison. This is our last hope and our life is absolutely in the hands of the Hon'ble Chief Minister."

This comes after the state government last year had taken a resolution to release assassins of Rajiv Gandhi and recommended the governor Banwarilal Purohit to take necessary steps to release these seven convicts who are in TN's Vellore central prison for 27 years by exercising article 161.
