Chennai, July 31: Veteran actor Rajinikanth arrived at the Kauvery hospital in Chennai on Tuesday night to inquire about the health condition of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi. "I came to inquire about the country's most senior leader. He was sleeping. I inquired about him from his family members. I pray to the almighty for his speedy recovery", Rajinikanth was quoted by ANI.
The DMK president, who is being treated for fever due to urinary tract infection, was shifted to a private hospital from his residence on Saturday. Karunanidhi's hospitalisation has been extended for some more time now due to age-related complications, the hospital said in its statement.
The latest health bulletin issued by the Kauvery Hospital on Tuesday informed that an extended period of hospitalization will be necessary due to age-related overall decline in Karunanidhi's general health, altered liver functions & haematological parameters.

On Tuesday, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi visited him and described his condition as stable. "I met him, he is fine, stable. I am quite happy to see that he is doing well. He is a very tough person like the people of Tamil Nadu. He has the spirit of Tamil Nadu in him," Rahul told reporters after visiting Karunanidhi.
In the last week, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu had visited the Kauvery hospital to inquire about Karunanidhi's the health condition. Naidu said doctors informed that Karunanidhi's condition was stable. "Visited Kaveri Hospital and met former Chief Minister Thiru Kalaignar Karunanidhi. Met his family members and doctors and enquired about his health. Doctors said he is stable. Wish him a speedy recovery," Naidu tweeted.
Karunanidhi has not been keeping well since October 2016. The 94-year-old DMK Chief has not been making any public appearance owing to his ill-health for the past two years, but he still holds the top post in the Dravidian party.
