Rajasthan: Villagers Resort to Stone Pelting to Oppose Anti-Encroachment Drive in Nagaur, JCB Operator Killed

Jaipur, August 25: A JCB operator was fatally injured as villagers in Nagaur district of Rajasthan turned violent while protesting against an anti-encroachment drive being carried by the administration. The incident was reported in Taausar village, where over two dozen houses were to be removed from a government plot.

The deceased JCB operator, identified as Farookh, was injured as the villagers resorted to stone-pelting to protest against the razing of their houses. Nagaur District Collector Dinesh Kumar Yadav expressed sorrow over his demise, calling the incident "unfortunate". He has appealed the villagers to exercise calm and allow the administration to carry out the anti-encroachment drive, as directed by the Rajasthan High Court.

"We were acting on court's direction, but the villagers were incited by a few political people, they started to pelt stones at us, the police tried to control the situation. It's very unfortunate," Yadav said.

According to local media reports, politicians in Nagaur have backed the locals who are up against the administration to protect their houses which have been deemed illegal by the government.

Among those who have openly condemned the administration includes Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal, who has reportedly said that he would not allow the house of any person be razed in his constituency.
