Kota, May 22: In a shocking incident, a woman in Rajasthan allegedly drowned her infant son in a water tank and later pretended to search the child with her husband. Police informed that the 35-year-old woman in Kota, who drowned her six-month-old son, committed the crime in 'deep sleep' in the wee hours on Sunday. According to a report by PTI, the woman, identified as Deepika Gujjar, a resident of Saraswati Colony in the city, has been arrested under Section 302 of the IPC. Reports inform that the woman took the baby to the second floor of their three-storeyed apartment and threw him in the water tank. After committing the crime, she went back to sleep on the first floor, where the family lived. The tragic incident came to light when her husband found the boy missing around 1.30 am. After the incident took place, the accused joined her husband Sitaram and mother-in-law Kelabai to search the child in the nearby areas. SHO Harendra Singh of the Borekheda police station said that the woman told them that she “unknowingly” took the baby to the water tank and drowned him in it. However, the motive behind the crime was yet to be ascertained.
Police informed that though the matter surfaced on Sunday, the accused continued misleading them till Monday. Later, during interrogation, she broke down and confessed to the crime. Police informed that two of her children had died of natural causes earlier. According to reports, the woman had no history of any mental disorder but they were probing this aspect as well.
