Bhilwara, July 06: A 19-year-old woman, Vandana aka Tina Gadri, was arrested on Friday for allegedly poisoning her 23-year-old husband, Madan Gadri, to death last month in Dhumdas village of Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district, as he was less educated than her. Madan, who had studied up to Class 8 and worked as a labourer, married Tina seven years ago when they were both minors.
TOI reported that on June 15, Narayan Gadri reported to Bhilwara Sadar police that his brother Madan had been given poisonous pills by Tina on June 3 at 9:30 PM. Madan was initially admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Bhilwara but later succumbed to the poisoning during treatment in Udaipur on June 6. The investigation, led by Circle Officer Shyam Sunder Vishnoi, revealed that the couple was married under the local 'aata-saata' tradition, an exchange practice where a girl marries a boy whose sister must marry the girl's brother. In this case, Tina's brother and Madan's sister, both minors, are currently studying in their respective parents' villages. Tina, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree, was reportedly dissatisfied with Madan's lower level of education and laborer status. Vishnoi stated that Tina desired to maintain her brother's marriage to her sister-in-law but wanted to marry someone else herself.
The educational disparity and Tina's wish to marry someone more educated allegedly led her to poison Madan, resulting in his death. Tina Gadri is now in police custody, facing charges related to her husband's death, as investigations continue.
