Rajasthan Police Arrests Four Accused of Murdering Pakistani Prisoner Shakir Ullah

Jaipur, February 27: The Rajasthan Police on Wednesday arrested four men accused of murdering Pakistani prisoner Shakir Ullah in Jaipur Central Jail. The arrest comes days after the killing evoke a sharp reaction from Islamabad, which charged of India of violating the United Nations' norms on human rights.

The accused, who have been taken into custody, have been identified as Hajan, Ajit, Kulvinder and Manoj. The arrest was made based upon a production warrant for inquiry. India-Pakistan Tensions: West Bengal Govt Shifts Pakistani Inmates to High-Security Cells.

Shakir Ullah, who was lodged in the Jaipur Central Jail since 2011, was murdered on February 20. Although initial reports said that the inmates, enraged over the cross-border terror attack in Pulwama, stoned him to death, an inquiry later confirmed that he was killed in a brawl which erupted over the volume of the television set.

 

Additional Commissioner of Police Laxman Gaur said the Pakistani prisoner was killed using a rock. The top police official has also assured action against cops who failed to maintain law and order at the jail.

Notably, Shakir Ullah, 50, was arrested after the Indian agencies found he was an operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba. He belongs to Sialkot in Pakistan's Punjab.
