A husband’s video call marriage to a Pakistani woman in Rajasthan led his first wife to file a dowry case and accuse him of triple talaq, alleging illegal entry by the new spouse.

Mumbai, July 26: In a dramatic turn of events in Rajasthan, a husband conducted a wedding ceremony via video call with a Pakistani woman, leading his first wife to file a dowry case and accuse him of triple talaq. Additionally, the first wife alleged that the Pakistani woman had entered India illegally. The first wife has appealed to the Government of India for assistance in securing justice for herself and her children.

According to a report published on 28 July by Free Press Journal, Mehwish is a 33-year-old woman from Lahore, Pakistan, who married Rehman, a 35-year-old from Pithisar, Churu, via video call and later in Saudi Arabia, with their Nikah taking place two years ago. On Saturday, July 27, Mehwish arrived in Churu on a 45-day tourist visa to visit her in-laws. Rehman is currently in Kuwait, while Mehwish is in India to spend time with his family. Farida Bano, 29 years old and the first wife, has raised concerns about Mehwish's entry into India and her role in the situation. The first wife claims she sold her jewellery to support her husband's business abroad, only to be abandoned by him with their two children. According to reports, Rehman and Mehwish initially connected on a social media app. Their friendship evolved into love, leading to their decision to marry. This marriage was their second for both. Rehman and Mehwish were each previously married and had two children from their prior marriages. Mehwish, who married in 2006, has two sons and separated from her first husband a few years ago.

Police Station Officer Hanuman Ram Bishnoi said that Farida Bano, a resident of Bhadra, has filed an FIR against her husband, Rehman Khan, and his family for dowry harassment. Married on March 17, 2011, Farida and Rehman have an 8-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son. Farida has also accused her husband of administering triple talaq. She has appealed to the Government of India for assistance in securing justice for herself and her children.
